Why Do We Go to Space?

Last night, Giuseppe Sisinni gave a lecture on Aerospace Engineering. The first question he raised was: “Why do we go to Space?”.

With the help of the active cadets, Giuseppe found all the answers: We go to Space for: human exploration, robotic exploration, navigation, Earth observation, communication, meteorology. And of course to build infrastructure in Space (a great example is the International Space Station).
Giuseppe Sisinni described what is space system, mentioning the three main segments: ground, launch and space.

Giuseppe inspired the participants by including a quote, given by the British astronomer Fred Hoyle: “Space isn’t remote at all. It’s only an hour’s drive away if your car could go straight upwards.”

Right after, he showed some interesting simulations, which he made, by using STK – a software, with which the cadets will be “having fun” later in the program, to better understand orbital mechanics.

In the end, the founder of the program Raycho Raychev, challenged the cadets with some questions and spoke about the importance of future space education and exploration.
