Space Challenges 2016 Final Presentations

The Cadets of Space Challenges 2016 presented their projects in front of our team and a few guests for their final evaluations. Six teams took part in the program this year and the success rate was the highest yet in terms of individual scores!

The following projects were presented:

• Teams Space Comm 1 and 2 presented their antennas and showed us real data from a weather satellite they have received!

• They had to build their own antennas and a tracking station which can follow a satellite or an airplane while receiving signal from it!
• Teams Smarter City and Space 1 and 2 took different approaches – while team 1’s primary concern was farming and providing a cheap and reliable way for farmers to track their crops with their sensors;
• Team 2 was focused on pollution and aimed to create a real-time pollution map with their sensor boxes.
• Teams Planet also had different ideas for their respective projects. Team 1 adressed a very important problem in modern times – deforestation. They used the satellite imagery, provided by Planet, to find reduction in green index and compare photos of forests at different times to track deforestation.
• Team 2, on the other hand, targetted farming and more specifically the serious problem with farm land utilization. They decided to look for unused land near water bodies which can potentially increase farming efficiency!
