Space 101 – Introduction to Space Engineering and Science

Just one day after meeting for the first time, the Space Cadets had their introduction to Space Engineering and Science!

They learned about the main systems and subsystems which comprise a spacecraft, what keeps one in orbit and why satellites are indispensable today.

In addition, the cadets were acquainted with spacecraft testing – what problems could arise from vibration, temperature and pressure fluctuations and how to ensure the electronics will survive the harsh environment of space!

We concluded the lecture with some applications, which we believe demonstrated the incredible uses of satellites today – from purely practical ones like communication and weather forecasting, to incredible feats of science tied to the very origin of the Universe!

The cadets’ next challenge will be to learn some Orbital Mechanics, and even apply their knowledge to calculate the required delta V for an orbital maneuver! Follow us to see their progress!
