On Friday, Nov. 14, was the presentation of our other distinguished guest this week – Dr. Ing. Marco Lisi of the European Space Agency. Dr. Lisi, who is based in the Netherlands at the ESTEC facility, is an expert in the development and integration of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). He gave a talk on “The Future of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Systems”. Dr. Lisi talked about the past, present, and future of Galileo – the European satellite navigation and positioning system. He stressed the importance of employing the systems approach to create seamless GNSS services. Dr. Lisi also talked about the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) ground system for improving the precision of GPS, and stressed thаt the only way to guarantee a resilient global positioning service is to achieve a seamless integration of satellite and non-satellite infrastructures and platforms.
