Data transfer in Space

Is data transfer as easily done as it seems? Giovani Pandolfi – CTO Leaf Space, introduced the cadets to the vast and dynamic world of data transfer, during his lecture – Ground segment of satellite systems and the future of Teleport trends.

After covering the basics of the process of downlink and uplink transfers as well the needed infrastructure on the ground the lecture became a discussion.

Is there a connection between the size of the antenna and the position of the satellite in orbit? How do we choose the correct frequency to transmit data and what are the trade-offs? Are we able to downlink or uplink at any given moment? Those were just a few of the questions that were discussed.

In addition, they were acquainted with another challenge – power distribution onboard a small satellite – how to properly manage the power to the necessary systems to be able to transmit data on the right time.

Stay tuned for more updates!
